Incumbent Representative Marcy Kaptur and former Senator Sherrod Brown are facing backlash ahead of the November election.

Ahead of November, Democratic Congressional candidates in Ohio are under a microscope for their actions on transgender issues. Two candidates are facing harsh criticism for their records on the issue.

Representative Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) was recently called out by her own party for her vote against transgender ideology in schools.

Lucas County Democrats, who originally recruited Kaptur for office according to her website, wrote a social media post calling on Kaptur to take down advertisements touting her vote.

“We are joining the call to ask Representative Kaptur to take down these harmful ads. Kaptur is a better candidate with better policies and a long history of supporting equal rights, and even gerrymandered districts shouldn’t make us stoop to Derek Merrin’s level,” Lucas County Democrats wrote on social media.

In the advertisement that is angering Democrats, Kaptur spoke about her decision to vote with Republicans against transgender ideology in schools.

“I voted with Republicans to keep transgender ideology out of our schools because parents know what’s best for their kids, and boys should not play in girls’ sports. Don’t let them change the subject,” the advertisement said.

Kaptur’s campaign defended her stance in a recent statement.

“Marcy supports parents having more insight into their children’s education. That’s why she set the record straight on her vote with Republicans to give parents more say in the classroom. And it’s why she believes parents, coaches, and local sports associations – not politicians in Washington – should set the rules in their communities to ensure girls’ sports stay fair,” said a campaign spokesperson in the statement.

On the other side of the debate, former Senator Sherrod Brown is facing backlash for his support of radical transgender policy.

A recent advertisement from the Senate Leadership Fund shows a 23-year-old woman who detransitioned. Doctors told her family that she was transgender at age 15. She received hormone injections and surgery, which she said was “without [her] parents’ consent.”

The ad points out that “Sherrod Brown supports sex change for minors, irreversible surgery on kids.”

The detransitioned woman adds that she was “confused,” and that Sherrod Brown “knows the consequences. Ohio’s kids deserve better.”

“Children should never have to endure the trauma that far-Left politicians like Sherrod Brown have inflicted. Ohioans are sick and tired of Democrats caving to the demands of extremists and will once again reject Brown this November,” said the Senate Leadership Fund in a recent statement.

Brown was also targeted during his 2024 race for his radical stance on transgender care for minors when he lost to Senator Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio). He is now running against incumbent Senator Jon Husted (R-Ohio) in an attempt to regain his seat in the Senate.
